Google has unveiled the source code of its latest software update, Ice Cream Sandwich, with developers able to down the code for free.
This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first Android 4.0 device,” Android open source project manager Jean Baptiste M, or “JBQ”, said in a statement on a Google Group post.
Google has promoted the use of Android as an open-source alternative to other mobile software systems, as it allows developers to tinker with the code and change it to their will.
Although Google has not released a launch date for the new Nexus phone, the launch of the source code for Ice Cream Sandwich suggests such an announcement is getting closer.
