Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg has pledged the company will stay away from making games, leaving that task to the third party.
In an interview with Charlie Rose, Zuckerberg said was “pretty sure” the company wouldn’t build any games.
“Because building games is really hard. And what we’re doing is really hard. And we think that we’re better off focusing on this piece. I think that building a great game service is really hard. Building a great music service is really hard.”
“And we just believe that an independent entrepreneur will always beat a division of a big company.”
Games have become one of the most popular categories of apps on Facebook, with some companies such as Zynga achieving success off the back of the social network’s popularity.
The Charlie Rose interview appeared on US television yesterday, and previews have already appeared online.
