Visa moving forward on mobile payments

Visa is pushing forward its use of mobile payments technology in the United States as it attempts to corner that sector of the market, Reuters has reported.

The report comes as the mobile payments space is heating up, especially as Google rolls out its new Wallet technology that will allow Android phones with NFC capabilities to make contactless payments at retail stores.

“As NFC mobile payments and other chip-based emerging technologies are poised to take off in the coming years, we are taking steps today to create a commercial framework that will support growth opportunities,” Jim McCarthy, Visa’s global head of product, told the publication.

The new statement also comes as a venture between mobile providers in the United States has promised to introduce new payments technology in conjunction with payment providers.
