The Commonwealth Bank has reportedly reduced the scope of its social media policy, no longer making staff responsible for comments made by others on their networking profiles.
The development comes after the Commonwealth Bank released the policy last year, which stated that employees may be held responsible for remarks made by others in certain circumstances.
Financial Sector Union national secretary Leon Carter has told Fairfax that the bank has relaxed the policy.
“The original position was unfair as well as unrealistic, and the bank has done the right thing updating the policy to reflect the reality of social media,” Carter said.
“It’s a burgeoning media that provides opportunities for people to engage in a wide range of discussions. It is not designed for the regulation of activity or opinion.”
