New rumour suggests iPhone 5 delay

A new report from an unnamed AT&T representative confirms earlier rumours that Apple will not be releasing the new iPhone 5 until later in the year.

According to a post on MacRumours, provided by a customer who saw their period for upgrade eligibility had been pushed back for several months, AT&T now knows the new iPhone isn’t coming soon.

“Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future,” the report states.

“Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.”

While the report itself comes from a customer, and is unusual given that AT&T employees are not usually privy to such information so far in advance, the release does confirm rumours from earlier this year.
