Retail giant Amazon is planning to ship a tablet device by the end of the year, according to a new report in DigiTimes.
The report claims that notebook manufacturer Quanta Computer has received some orders for the new device from Amazon, and that E-Ink Holdings will be supplying the touch screen panel.
The report claims the monthly orders during the season peak will reach between 700,000-800,000 units, with the device to ship in the second half of the year.
Apparently, sources have said that while Amazon is enjoying strong support from the Kindle, international support has been thin. A tablet device would do more to challenge Apple and the iPad 2.
