Blackberry founder Mike Lazaridis says the unusual size of the company’s new Playbook tablet – at seven inches, the device sits somewhere between a standard smartphone and the iPad – will be attractive to consumers due to its portability.
The device, which goes on sale on April 19 in the US, has received good early reviews from analysts, although there have been questions raised over the lack of apps available for the device – an area where Apple’s iPad is particularly strong.
Lazaridis, who founded Blackberry-owner Research in Motion in 1984, demonstrated the new device for the BBC, but ended an interview with the broadcaster when a reporter asked about RIM’s security issues in the India and Middle East.
The interview, seen here, comes to an end when Lazaridis labels the question about security issues “unfair”.
