American mobile payments company Square, led by Twitter executive chairman and former chief executive Jack Dorsey, has named former Google engineer Bob Lee as its chief technology officer.
According to TechCrunch, Lee joined the company early on after working with Google on the Android operating system.
Communications director Kay Luo told the publication that Lee has been helping with “other things”, and that he will look over all the different technology projects the company is working on.
“Square does believe in promoting from within,” Luo added.
The assignment comes after Keith Rabois was appointed the company’s chief operating officer.
Square recently announced it is handling more than $US1 million worth of payments everyday through its iPhone and Android apps.
