Social networking giant Facebook has hosted a hacking cup, with finalists from 10 nations flown in to compete at the company’s Palo Alto headquarters.
Thousands of hackers entered the competition, which is based around analysing and deconstructing algorithms.
The competition is based around finding answers to complicated questions, rather than working in teams. In each round the hackers are asked to complete three problems, and those who could solve the most problems in the shortest amount of time move on to the next round.
As reported by Mashable, Facebook software engineer David Alves said the event is not meant for recruitment, but does give the company the ability to speak with talented hackers. They are encouraged to apply for jobs after the competition is finished.
Facebook intends to continue the competition next year.
