Nielsen has released a new report surveying the smartphone market, and has found that Google’s Android operating system now holds 29% of the US sector.
The survey puts Android ahead of the iOS and BlackBerry OS, saying each represents 27% of the market.
“An analysis by manufacturer shows RIM and Apple to be the winners compared to other device makers since they are the only ones creating and selling smartphones with their respective operating systems,” Nielsen reported.
The survey also reveals Windows Phone has about 10% of the market, with WebOS only taking 4%. Symbian currently has only 2% of the smartphone market.
Nielsen also said that out of the three most popular software products, Android seems to be attracting the younger customers, holding 14% of the 18-34 age group.
