Facebook updates privacy policy

Social networking giant Facebook has updated its privacy policy in response to criticism that it is too difficult to understand.

In a new blog post, the company says that it wants to update the language used in the policy so that everyday users will be able to understand it more easily.

“Our own privacy policy has been criticised as being ‘5,830 words of legalese’ and ‘longer than the U.S. constitution – without the amendments,” the company said. “Okay, you’re right. We agree that privacy policies can and should be more easily understood, and that inspired us to try something different.”

The most prominent change is that the term “privacy policy” has been replaced with “data use policy”. The new policy has also been broken up into separate pages.
