Tech giant Apple has said it is aware of a security vulnerability in the iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 software that allows users to bypass any passcode to access confidential data, and a fix is due next month.
Various tech publications reported the vulnerability this week. Savvy users are able to use a glitch to access certain parts of the phone without a passcode, including the photo gallery, MMS messaging features and actual phone.
“We’re aware of this issue and we will deliver a fix to customers as part of the iOS 4.2 software update in November,” Apple Australia told Fairfax.
It is not the first time iPhone users have been left vulnerable to attacks, with previous versions of iOS software containing vulnerabilities. Most recently, a bug in the iOS software left some Australian users high and dry when the in-built alarm clock did not adjust properly to daylight savings.
