Social networking giant Facebook has introduced facial recognition technology to help users automatically find friends in their photos.
The new feature, according to the company, works by having a “tag suggestion” box appear next to newly uploaded pictures.
“Now if you upload pictures from your cousin’s wedding, we’ll group together pictures of the bride and suggest her name,” Facebook engineer Justin Mitchell said in a blog post.
“Instead of typing her name 64 times, all you’ll need to do is click ‘Save’ to tag all of your cousin’s pictures at once.”
The feature comes after Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said the company redesigned its profile pages to emphasise photos, after the seemingly unimportant feature because one of the most popular tools of the site.
