Google Wave makes a comeback

Google Wave, the social collaboration tool the internet giant scrapped earlier this year, may have a second life.

In a new proposal to the Apache Software Foundation, a group of tech pundits have put together a proposal to add “Apache Wave” to the foundation’s list of services.

The project would see code moved from Google to the ASF infrastructure, whereby users could still access it and engineers could start developing new uses for it.

However, the proposal does say that there is a risk in adopting Wave given that there wasn’t much popularity for the platform in the first place. But it also says that several groups, including the US Navy may make use of it.

But with the proposal still in its infancy, it may be some time before Google Wave finds its way back online.
