Acer releases tablet range

Computer manufacturer Acer has revealed a number of tablet devices in order to compete with the growing number of gadgets flooding the market.

Chief executive Gianfranco Lanci said at a conference in New York the company now offer a range of tablets in five, seven and 10 inch screen models, powered by Google’s Android software and Windows.

The announcement also comes as Dell has announced a new tablet that will be powered by Windows.

Acer has said it is currently discussing 3G connectivity issues with US telcos. Currently the company plans for releasing the WiFi models in April 2011, with the 3G models set to come out in May.

According to new research from Gartner, tablets are expected to reach 54 million sales during 2011 as more manufacturers enter the market.
