Singapore Airlines to offer in-flight WiFi

Singapore Airlines will re-introduce WiFi on its longer international flights during 2011, the company has said.

While the company had introduced the service a few years ago, the Boeing-based program was scrapped and SA was unable to introduce the service. However, the new agreement with OnAir will allow the airline to offer satellite internet access.

“Unlike the earlier trial introduction of an internet service, this suite of features is for full implementation and we are pleased to offer this as an added choice to our inflight programme,” Singapore Airlines’ senior vice president of product and services Yap Kim Wah said in a statement.

“The environment that our customers have gotten used to on the ground can soon be replicated in the air, when they fly with Singapore Airlines on aircraft fitted with this new connectivity platform.”

International roaming rates will apply for telephone services, while internet access can be purchased after buying an access package in the air.
