Android users increasing WiFi use

A new report from global WiFi service WeFi has found Android users are increasing their use of WiFi services instead of relying on just 3G connections.

“The data was collected through analysing data from WeFi’s over five million end-users on various platforms and through WeFi’s database of over 60 million WiFi access points recorded,” WeFi spokesman Jason Silberman told Information Week.

“Most notably,” the report said, “all the Android models (examined) have significantly increased monthly WiFi data usage beyond the 500 MB range.”

Several Android devices recorded over 500MB of data used each month, with the HTC Hero and the HTC Tatoo models recording over 500MB up to 2GB each month.

The report also pointed out the growth of data-heavy apps is making users spend more time on WiFi connections. Additionally, free WiFi spots in public areas and businesses are also increasing WiFi connectivity.
