Symantec finds 92% of all email spam

Internet security firm Symantec has revealed 92% of all email messages can be classified as spam, up by 3% from one year ago, according to the findings of a new report.

The new report reveals a different kind of attack that takes advantage of an eCommerce “live chat” feature, faking a user’s login ID and password.

“The phishing site involved bogus chat sessions to help the page look more authentic, trying to give customers the impression that the phishing website was interactive,” the company says in a statement.

However, the report also points out the amount of spam containing a phishing attack has dropped by 5% from June to July this year.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has continuously said it will crackdown on spam email messages, particularly those containing malware attacks.
