The last few years has seen the rise of the coupon. Through various websites and apps, users are now searching for the latest and greatest bargain, and thanks to location-based search, they’re looking for them constantly.
A new Australian-owned app, MobiQpons, has attempted to bank on this popularity in the US, and recently, in Australia.
The service works by having businesses sign up to the program. They then run coupons through the app which users can show to cashiers in order to receive a discount. While some large businesses, including WalMart, have run campaigns on the app, it’s primarily focused towards smaller businesses which might have the money to develop an app of their own.
The developer says it has recorded over 300,000 downloads in the first 12 months of operation, and about 75,000 businesses have signed on. At any time, there are about 5,000 different vouchers on the app.
It’s just getting started in Australia, but already businesses are signing up. The best thing – it’s free.
