Tablet computers will overtake netbook sales in the United States within two years, a new report from Forrester Research shows.
The new US Consumer PC Market in 2015 report claims desktops will be the only PC category, in which fewer units will be sold in five years than today.
Report author Sarah Rotman Epps claims tablet computers will overtake netbooks, due to the growing number of applications being developed for these types of gadgets. An Android-based tablet would help push this market along.
Within five years, tablets will overtake both netbooks and desktops, but gaming and 3D content will keep desktops around for quite awhile. Tablets will account for 23% of all PCs sold in 2015, with laptops to take up the biggest share of the market.
