The next update to the iPhone software, OS 4.0, could be released as soon as June 7 with the company announcing the starting date of its World Wide Developer’s Conference.
The Conference, held every year in San Francisco, serves as an opportunity for the company to interact with developers and show off some new features. More specifically, however, it serves as the host for the company’s yearly iPhone updates.
As per Apple’s usual technique, no announcements have been made so far regarding whether any information about the new iPhone OS or hardware will be given. But judging by previous WWDC events, June 7 should see more details for both the iPhone OS and new hardware.
However, this year’s event may have been spoiled by a leaked phone appearing on the internet, courtesy of technology blog Gizmodo. The site posted pictures of a confirmed prototype iPhone, leaving many to wonder whether this year’s hardware update will be entirely spoiled before chief executive Steve Jobs takes the stage.
The company also intends to give out awards for the five best iPhone and iPad apps developed over the past year.
