Users of social networking service Twitter are being warned about a dangerous phishing attack targeted at a number of the site’s account holders.
A warning has been issued by the Twitter Safety account, saying “If you receive a DM asking “LOL is this you,” it’s not. It’s phishing. Don’t enter your password!”
“It’s best to take action as soon as possible if updates are appearing in your account that you did not intend to have posted or approve.”
Additionally, users who believe they may have been affected are directed towards bit.ly/SecureMyAccount. Another warning has also been given, similar to the first, warning users to be wary of any unofficial messages.
“In general, if you see any message, DM or no, asking “LOL is this you” or some variant, it’s usually a scam/spam. Be aware of phishing attempts!”
Phishing involves sending an email which looks official to users, but in reality it is a front for stealing login details.
