Choice warns of 3D television

Consumer group Choice has made a call for 3D television sets to be tested for safety due to claims they could be dangerous.

It comes as a number of major manufacturers including Samsung and LG have said they will introduce 3D television sets over the next 12 months.

“Before these TVs are made available they need to be proven safe for regular viewing for long periods of time,” Choice spokesperson Elise Davidson told News.com.au.

The comments come after author and virtual reality researcher Mark Pesce told the ABC last week 3D television could lead to a dangerous eye condition. He said he became aware of this after he studied virtual reality during the 1990s.

“Our testers realised children… could potentially suffer permanent damage from regular and extensive exposure,” he wrote.
