A group of activists have taken control of over 300 Facebook community groups, saying their efforts are a demonstration to others about how easily the groups can be made vulnerable to other users’ interference.
A group called “Control Your Info” has taken responsibility for the attacks. They said once a group’s administrator resigns their position, anybody can take up their place.
“This means we control a certain part of the information about you on Facebook. If we wanted we could make you appear in a bad way which could damage your image severely (sic).”
The organisation has branded each of the groups with its own logo. While it says it will replace the groups’ information with their original details, a spokesperson told CNN.com Facebook users must learn from the “major flaw”.
“This isn’t some kind of scare tactic, nor is it a hack, it’s a feature that can be used, and is being used, in bad ways.”
