Amazon has filed for an Australian trademark for its Kindle Unlimited service, while Samsung has trademarked a number of yet to be released smartphones.
On January 27, Amazon filed for a local trademark (trademark number 1670827) for its subscription book service Kindle Unlimited, which grants customers unlimited access to a selection of 650,000 ebooks and audiobooks for a fixed monthly fee.
The service initially launched in the US to mixed reviews in July last year, with a subscription costing $US9.99 ($A12.91) per month.
Meanwhile, Samsung has filed for local trademarks on a number of new smartphones, in some cases possibly indicating Australian releases in the near future.
The trademarks were for its Galaxy E7 (IP Australia trademark number 1670869), E5 (1670871), E3 (1670873) and A5 (1671101) mid-range smartphones.
The Galaxy E7 is a yet-to-be-released smartphone that includes a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, a 13-megapixel camera and 16 gigabytes of internal storage (expandable through microSD cards).
