This is the first time that the WGEA, which annually reports gender pay gaps by industry, has released the names of actual companies and the differences in what they pay male and female employees.

The good news is that Australia’s total remuneration gender pay gap has dropped slightly, down 1.1 percentage points to a new low of 21.7%. But the real story could be in what’s to come over the next year.

A slight improvement in the national gender pay gap to 13.3% has been reported, bringing the current status quo to Australian women pocketing, on average, 87 cents for their work to every dollar earned by a man.

Companies with at least 250 staff could have the size of their gender pay gap revealed publicly, under a plan from the federal Labor party.
