Do you have a computer running Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 that’s playing up? Microsoft has included a number of built-in tools to help you to fix it – or diagnose what’s gone wrong. Here’s how to access them.
When you first switch your computer on, hold down the shift key and press the F8 key repeatedly.
If you’ve done this correctly, you’ll be taken to a blue menu screen with the heading “Choose an option” and three choices: “Continue”, “Troubleshoot” and “Turn off your PC.”
Tap or touch the “Troubleshoot” option, and then “Advanced options”.
On this screen, you’ll be given a number of built-in tools you can use to help fix your system, including recovering windows from a system image file you’ve created in the past, and the ability to launch into safe mode.
