Mozilla Firefox on Mac or PC: Move between your browser tabs quickly

Have you ever seen how quickly someone who has mastered a few keyboard shortcuts can whizz around their computer? If you use Firefox on Mac or PC, and keep a lot of tabs open at once, here are some handy shortcuts to memorise.

First, hold down the CTRL key (CMD key on a Mac) and tap T to open a new tab, or press N to open a new window.

Holding CTRL (or CMD on Mac) and pressing W closes the current tab, while holding CTRL and SHIFT then tapping W closes the current window.

Likewise, holding CTRL (or CMD on Mac) and pressing TAB automatically moves you to the next tab, while holding CTRL and SHIFT then tapping TAB moves you to the previous tab.

Finally, hold down the CMD (Mac) or CTRL (PC) key and then press a number between 1 and 9. You will automatically jump to a tab according to its position in your tab bar. For example, CTRL (or CMD) 5 will automatically switch to the fifth tab, while CTRL (or CMD) 1 flicks to the first tab.
