Whenever you’re using a device that you plug in to a Windows computer, the operating system has to use driver software to recognise it.
Sometimes, that driver software doesn’t work. In order to check whether your device is recognised, sometimes you need to open the device manager.
It’s simple enough. Head to the start menu, then search for “device manager” in the search bar. Click it when it comes up.
There, you’ll be able to see all the devices connected to your computer – including USB devices, keyboard or mice that don’t work. Those that don’t work will usually have a question mark next to them. To upgrade the driver software, just right-click and choose update drivers.
It may not always work, but it’s a good start.
