Make your Twitter more secure

Tech TricksTwitter is a great tool for businesses to connect with customers and even other companies, but it may all be worth nothing if a hacker accesses your account and tweets some nasty comments.

You should be protecting your Twitter account, and thankfully the micro-blogging site has just added a new feature to let that happen.

First, you should go to “settings”. You should see a box at the bottom of the screen that says “always use HTTPS”. Check this box – it will increase the security of your account and protect your information while over certain types of internet connections.

And while you’re at it, here are a few other tips you should take heed of when using Twitter:

  • Change your password every month. It can be annoying but will decrease the likelihood of someone accessing your account illegitimately.
  • Don’t trust every message you see, and definitely don’t click every link. There are plenty of spammers and hackers on Twitter who want to infect you with malware.
  • Always make sure you’re using anti-virus software, so if you do happen to click on a link any malware or spyware will be blocked.
