Apple is hiring editors in order to curate content for its News app. However, questions are being raised as to how the company will present stories in an unbiased way.
Techmeme’s founder Gabe Rivera told 9to5mac while all news aggregators need editors, Apple News will be in a conflict of interest should negative stories about Apple come to light.
“As the world’s most valuable corporation, they can’t and shouldn’t be trusted to present well-rounded coverage on many important topics,” he said.
“But most readers won’t care about that.”
Sleep tracking startup dreams big with $US40 million raise
Sleep tracking startup Hello has raised $US40 million in a bid to tackle Asian markets, according to The Financial Times.
The round was led by Singapore company Temasek, valuing the startup at around $US250 million.
The latest capital injection follows a $US10.5 million raise last year from a number of Silicon Valley investors.
Facebook launches new app so people can sync their photos with friends and family
Facebook is allowing users to privately sync their photos with friends through the launch of a standalone app.
Product manager Will Ruben said in a statement Moments will use facial recognition technology in order to identify which friends to share your photos with.
“When you go to a wedding, for example, there are many people taking great photos throughout the day,” he said.
“You all want a quick way to share your photos with the friends who are in them, and get photos that you’re in back. The same is true for smaller events too, like a kayak trip or a night out.”
