Aussie Netflix users and Michael Bay fans will be breathing a big sigh of relief with the news, that unlike those unfortunate enough to live in the US and Canada, they will still be able to watch the latest Transformers movie on the video streaming service after September.
Netflix announced over the weekend that a whole host of big Hollywood movies would become unavailable in some markets as the on-demand video giant turns its attention towards exclusivity and original films.
As a result of Netflix not renewing a distribution deal with Epix, movies like the Hunger Games: Catching Fire and World War Z will no long be available on the platform in the US and Canada come September, as Re/Code reports.
Also lost to cinema-lovers will be Transformers: Age of Extinction.
It’s another move in Netflix’s increasing push to focus on content it can stream exclusively, and its own line of original productions that will begin rolling out soon.
Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos says the deal just wasn’t working anymore.
“We’ve enjoyed a five-year partnership with Epix, but our strategic paths are no longer aligned,” Sarandos says.
“While many of these movies are popular, they are also widely available on cable and other subscription platforms at the same time as they are on Netflix.”
“Our focus has shifted to provide great movies and TV series for our members that are exclusive to Netflix.”
