NBN security HQ to create 700 jobs in Melbourne

A further 700 jobs will be coming to Melbourne as part of another tech coup for the Victorian government.

Using money from the premier’s $508 million Job and Investment Fund, the government has enticed the National Broadband Network to establish its Cyber Security Operations Centre in the city.

As part of the move, 400 jobs will be created over two years in cyber security, technical support and administration, specialised ICT engineering and customer support.

Another 300 jobs will be added in construction, maintenance and technical support roles.

It’s on the back of the state government enticing big startup players to set up regional headquarters in the city, including Slack, GoPro and Zendesk, creating more than 400 tech jobs.

Minister for small business, innovation and trade Philip Dalidakis joined federal communications minister Mitch Fifield over the weekend to make the announcement.

“This decision by NBN is a big vote of confidence for Victoria’s high-skill workforce and reinforces our reputation as Australia’s tech hub,” Dalidakis said.

“This NBN investment will create 700 high-skill, high-wage local jobs in Victoria and builds on other major employment announcements in Victoria’s tech sector,” minister for employment Jacincta Allan said.
