Make your business portable

taskmasterOne of the key trends I am watching in the retail sector is the move towards small or even micro formats.

The hairdresser that shrinks to a single chair in the middle of a mall.

The food vendor who goes on the road.

The pop-up store that opens and closes within the space of a month.

Small formats are flexible and, in the current environment, seen by many as low risk. But what I like about a small format is that it’s flexible. You can do business anywhere.

Could you come up with a cut down version of your business? A mini store that needs little more than a card table and an iPad? A food truck? A hole-in-the-wall storefront that sells your top three products?

It can work for services, too. Think of a massage or beauty therapist working in a pub or a café. Or maybe a portable consulting office that can go into a client’s office and set up for weeks or months.

Small, portable, flexible – it’s what every business needs to be, but it’s what every start-up must be.

Get it done – today!
