Sydney co-working network Fishburners has launched a new space for start-ups, partnering with the City of Sydney to roll out the Darlinghurst facility.
Fishburners, which already houses around 100 budding entrepreneurs at its Ultimo co-working hub, has taken over the Oxford Street space for around 10% of the normal commercial rental rate as part of the deal.
The City of Sydney has leased the space to Fishburners as part of its “Making space for creativity program”, which was unveiled earlier this week.
The new co-working area, which can fit up to 50 people, is aimed at creative who have skills in some aspect of web or mobile production.
The existing Fishburners facility was launched in March last year and houses the founders of start-ups.
In contrast, the new area will be filled with production-based entrepreneurs who are experts in areas such as SEO, marketing or design.
“The aim is to create a group of experts who can collaborate on projects, learn from each other, and hopefully join forces to create new products,” David Vandenberg, director of Fishburners, told StartupSmart.
“They will also become a resource for the guys creating products out at our Ultimo space, who will employ their skills and from time to time lead to new co-founder relationships.”
Vandenberg says that four entrepreneurs have already moved into the facility, ahead of the official unveiling by Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore.
People looking to work at the collaborative office space will be charged $350 a month for a desk or $200 a month for a “community desk”, which will allow them to use the area three days a week.
