Feeling stressed or rundown? If the answer is yes, then just think how your much put-upon staff are feeling, especially if they have just been forced to listen to you whinge for a few hours.
Measuring stress levels is something many entrepreneurs are poor at, or don’t even bother to do. But if you want to keep your team from burning out, it is important to ensure that you keep a close eye on stress levels and morale.
The best bit of advice I can give you comes from Carolyn Creswell, the founder and chief of Carmen’s Fine Food.
Every Friday, she buys her staff lunch and then asks them all two questions: how stressed are you (on a scale of one to 10) and how many emails are in your inbox?
Depending on the answers, staff can have their workload decreased, they can be redeployed to help their stressed colleagues or, if no-one is stressed and everyone is going okay, then send everyone home an hour early.
It’s a simple but effective way to show your team your care about this stuff.
