Bash out a project in an afternoon

taskmasterWhen I was a young Taskmaster, one of my employers loved to spring a surprise on us on a Friday afternoon.

We’d gather in his office and await his instructions.

“Here’s the deal,” he’d say.

“We’re going to spend the next four hours tackling this little project I’ve been meaning to get around to. Everyone’s going to focus on it. Working together, we’ll see how much we can get done.”

“And then we’ll go and have a beer.”

Initially, there were a few groans about having to work so hard on a Friday afternoon. But we grew to love it.

It was exciting to work on the same thing at the same time. There was a sense of shared purpose.

We got to work with senior staff members who usually wouldn’t have much time for us. We got to see immediate results, or at least some quick wins.

It bonded us. It helped us understand where the company was going and why were all important parts of the puzzle. And it made the beer taste better too!

So what are you waiting for?

Get it done – today!
