Act with purpose

taskmasterI’ve been thinking a lot about the 10 rules for life from property developer Maha Sinnathamby, which I spoke about in my ‘getting up early’ post.

One of Sinnathamby’s interesting ideas is about having a single purpose in life – an all-consuming goal that you focus on and dedicate your life to.

I think most entrepreneurs can identify with that, although there would be many who would argue that you do need to ensure that a single focus on one thing doesn’t get a bit unhealthy.

Having a single, clear business goal is smart. But thinking about your business and only your business – and not say, your health or your family – is not a recipe for success.

As I was turning this over in my head I came across a piece by a sales expert called Geoffrey James, who laid out his 10 rules.

At the top of his list was a different take on Sinnathamby’s rule: Act with purpose.

I really like that. Approaching everything in life with a determination to get something done, to make a difference, is a really great way to think about business and, indeed, life.

Act with purpose. No distractions, no wasted time, just focused energy. Your Zen-like Taskmaster is at one with this idea.

Get it done – today!
