Dating site goes on face value

FindYourFaceMate.comNew York writer Christina Bloom has launched a website titled www.findyourfacemate.com to help people find their romantic doppelgangers after leaving her husband for a man who looked a lot like her.

Bloom says she became fixated with the concept after friends kept telling her that her new lover looked like he could be her brother.

“People are attracted to [other] people with similar facial features from themselves,” Bloom says.

The site’s software looks at things like face shape and bone structure, although it doesn’t distinguish between people with different skin colours. The website will also work on matching couples by comparing style, compatibility and values.

Bloom insists there is method to her madness, citing celebrity couples such as Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady – who could be mistaken for brother and sister – as prime examples.

Meanwhile, studies from around the world have shown that the visual portion of the brain signals our unconscious so that we are innately drawn to people with similar features.

Whether or not you believe the theories about lookalike lovers, Bloom’s site is certainly a bold step away from run-of-the-mill dating sites which currently dominate the market.

Is there an opportunity to make the online dating scene a little less serious with an offering such as Bloom’s?
