Sexyfloors Australia is a family-owned business that manufactures in Australia, providing a unique product that is environmentally-friendly, non-toxic and meets all Australian standards.
It was the founders’ previous flooring business that prompted them to establish Sexyfloors.
“I had the idea for our new business after listening to one of my husband’s clients saying, ‘This is a sexy floor’,” Cooper says.
“I then decided to rebrand our epoxy flooring business Allaboutfloors to Sexyfloors Australia. It is known worldwide as a brand with world-first designs for domestic, commercial and industrial floors.”
Sexyfloors won the HIA GreenSmart award for product of the year in 2010, and is also a member of Good Environmental Choice Australia.
With an extensive background in marketing and administration, Cooper and Shaw are committed to promoting “the unique changes to traditional concepts of the flooring industry”.
“We developed a unique formula of epoxy resin, and called our flooring something that would be remembered by homeowners wanting a new floor. Sexy Floors is it,” Cooper says.
“We have a unique product that no one can buy off the shelf and also we are very proud to have an environmentally-friendly product made in Australia and owned by a family business.”
“With so much work on, we have to franchise around Australia to keep up with the demand… Only franchisees are able to get our epoxy resin and unique flooring designs.”
According to Cooper, the most challenging part of starting up the business was securing funds and gaining accreditation, and not really knowing how to spend those funds.
“Also, we kept pouring our profits back into our business to expand our business. We learnt to save money to make our business more successful, without spending all our profits,” she says.
Cooper says the best part of starting a business is the freedom to be creative and be your own boss, and take advantage of other business opportunities.
