Power Play: Hire talented enemies

This Power Play is hard to do. That’s why only the most secure Power Players do it.

Power Players love smart people who disagree with them. This is why they hire talented enemies. Enemies might be too strong a word: more like people who have the guts to hold a different opinion to their own.

It’s very hard to listen to people who hold the direct opposite point of view. It’s even harder to listen to someone argue a case that results in them being right and in you being wrong and having to change your point of view.

Power Players know that the most talented people sometimes (most times) work for the competition. It takes real class to go after someone you know is probably smarter than you and may have more natural talent than you.

When you’ve mastered the art of hiring talented enemies, you know you’ve made it to the big leagues: the Power Player Premier League.
