Ninemsn says it should be seen as a player in the online search market, setting a priority to recapture its share with the launch of new features this month.
The launch of tools such as “Live Search” and releases of video search and global mapping are an attempt to win back some ground from its larger competitors.
Ninemsn head of search Alex Parsons told The Australian Financial Review while the company is a relatively new player in the market, it is growing at a fast rate and should be seen as an equal to Google and Yahoo!7.
Parsons says he is cautiously optimistic: “I’m not saying we’ll catch up to them in 12 months. It’s a long-term bet… and one that is a strategic priority for the Ninemsn business.”
The renewed determination comes as Ninemsn former chief executive Tony Faure resigned last week, following commercial director Jason Scott and marketing director Tony Thomas.
