There are lots of uncertainties when growing a business; that’s often part of the excitement. There is one thing that is certain – that the business and your role in it will change.

Like a lot of business owners I struggled at times to adjust to my changing role as the company grew. At times I kept doing business as usual at the cost of expanding my role and the role of those that joined. So what is business as usual? It’s our comfort zone.

Welcome to the human condition! We are creatures of habit and if we continue to do things exactly the same way we will fail to grow in our roles, which will affect the growth of our businesses.

Think about how you operate day-to-day, your business habits. Are they habits that move you forward towards your goals? If not, then it may be time to examine these comfort zones and move away from them, start doing things differently.

So what gets you out of your comfort zone? A compelling reason to act and behave differently. Identify what that compelling reason is.

If this rings true for you then it may be time to assess and redefine your role, and the roles of those around you. In order to do that it’s important to be clear on what you need to let go of in order for this to happen.

Before you take off for your Easter break take some time to assess your business, your role in your business and who is in your business that can step up.

Enjoy the extra time off.
