Dear Aunty B,
One of my colleagues won’t stop farting when he is behind the counter at our shop and I don’t think I can stand it any longer.
We work in retail and I’m sure even the customers are noticing the bad smells that are often hanging around. It is certainly not pleasant!
I’ve tried to joke about the issue – laughing and saying ‘who farted?’ – but my colleague just walks away sheepishly. What would you do, Aunty B?
Ben,
Brisbane
Dear Ben,
I find humour is often the key to diffusing any smelly situations in the workplace.
Next time your colleague farts near you, turn around and call them on it with a fart joke. Make light of the situation and get them to own up to it.
Once you both have a good old chuckle about the situation, politely let them know that it’s not a good idea to subject the customers to their farts and suggest he goes to the bathroom or outside the shop if he needs to relieve himself.
Be Smart,
Aunty B
