Reading the comments on losing self esteem prompted me to share some thoughts. While emotions are important, experiencing anxiety, worry and negativity over a period of time does have an effect, one area of which is self esteem. What is important to recognise is how long we may be spending in these states, when they occur, what prompts them and what we are thinking and feeling at the time – that is, our beliefs, behaviours and attitudes. I have found that by monitoring this with clients over a week, this can provide insight into these factors as well as patterns of behaviour. To move away from these states, reasons need to be developed for a new improved behaviour, as distinct from the continuing behaviour. Repetition and conditioning causes new outcomes, such as improved confidence and potential.
