The equipment you’ll need for your home-based business will depend very much on the type of business you are in.
But there are a few basics that every home-based entrepreneur needs:
- Good telecommunications services. Fast broadband and good telecommunications services are essential. While you will probably communicate with many people via email, phone and fax services are still used in lots of industries.
- Smartphone. A web-enabled phone that lets you get emails, access the internet, tap into back-end system and take the odd phone call is essential.
- Up-to-date IT systems. You’re entire business is likely to be run off one computer initially, so make sure it’s fast and reliable. And don’t forget to implement a back-up system to protect vital data.
- Office furniture. Office chairs, desks, filing cabinets and storage are all likely to be used in your office. One tip from successful home-based entrepreneurs is to have two desks – one for administrative work, and the other more creative work. It helps keep things tidy, and helps keep you focussed on varied tasks.
