Toowoomba in Queensland, Glen Waverley in Victoria and Mosman in NSW have been named as the top three most generous postcodes in the country by World Vision Australia.
The three suburbs combined have sponsored over 4500 children in impoverished nations through World Vision. Tim Costello, chief executive of World Vision Australia, said in a statement that the top 10 showed household income levels do not necessarily correlate with how much that household gives.
Toowoomba, Glen Waverley and Mosman recorded median weekly household income levels of $918, $1233 and $1903 respectively.
“You don’t have to earn a lot of money or live in the most affluent suburbs in Australia to make a significant difference to the lives of these children,” Costello said. “Frankston residents from Victoria are a great example of just how generous all Australians can be when they’re determined to help someone out.”
Frankston recorded a median weekly income level of $880, well below the national average of $1139. Costello said that many children still remain without sponsors, and that most people can afford to give.
