HOSTplus named super fund of the year

Superannuation research firm SuperRatings has named hospitality sector industry fund HOSTplus as its super fund of the year.

Superannuation research firm SuperRatings has named hospitality sector industry fund HOSTplus as its super fund of the year.

SuperRatings chief Jeff Bresnahan says the fund had been rewarded for its consistency across a number of categories, including its competitive fees and solid investment performance.

“On every major investment option they’ve got, they are in the top 10 across every time period,” Bresnahan says.

He particularly highlighted the work HOSTplus has done to improve its communication methods. As the average age of its members is 26, HOSTplus has worked hard at demystifying and explaining how super works in terms that people in this age group understand.

“They’ve just done things differently in trying to communicate with their membership.”

The award for best new product went to Axa’s AXA North product, which gives members the opportunity to pay a premium for a capital guarantee on their investment. The product was introduced well before the credit crunch worsened in the middle of this year.

“Members who took up this option are wearing big grins now,” Besnahan says.

The award for rising star was shared between Netwealth and Auscoal.
