Retailers need to be ready – spring sale time looks like coming early this year.
Department store chain Myer says it will launch its mid-season clearance sale on 1 October, but speculation abounds that rival David Jones will bring forward its sale date by a fortnight.
DJs is believed to be launching its spring clearance sale on tomorrow, although a company spokesperson would not confirm or deny the move.
In June, the major retailers brought forward their winter clearance sales by up to a fortnight in what proved to be a lacklustre month for the retail sector.
DJs chief execuive Mark McInnes has stated he is prepared for a slowdown in consumer spending this financial year, with flat to negative same-store sales growth for the next two to three quarters.
