When travelling, it’s always good if you can make some local contacts to help avoid the tourist traps and find that great hidden-away restaurant or art gallery that can make the whole trip.
New website ourexplorer.com has been set up to help travellers to do precisely that but putting them in touch with local travel guides in countries across the world.
Launched this month, OurExplorer already has over 300 guides from 75 countries listed, from “Flora” in Shanghai to “Anuar” in Kuala Lumpur.
The site also has a “passionate locals” section that allows people to post picks, comments and so on about cool stuff to see and do in their area.
And for those worried about hooking up with a local guide on spec, the site also has a rating facility to give people a sense of how other travellers have found them.
